Life Lessons

I came across this article written by Regina Brett-Cleveland, Ohio. She republished it for her 90th birthday. We could all use the little reminders that she has packed into this list.

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:"

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words ''In five years, will this matter?".
26. Always choose life.
27. Forgive everyone everything.
28. What other people think of you is none of your business.
29. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
30. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
31. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
32. Believe in miracles.
33. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
34. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
35. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
36. Your children get only one childhood.
37. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
38. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
39. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd
grab ours back.
40. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
41. The best is yet to come.
42. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
43. Yield.
44. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

Mixed Media at Paper Vineyard

Today was the mixed media class at Paper Vineyard with Mike Putman. It was awesome! Lesley Fisher was there too getting into the mix and helping us all learn a new technique. This beeswax stuff is addicting. :) There are so many things you can do with it. I had planned on just sitting in on the class and taking photos for the store but Mike had me jump in and make a board. Don't have to ask me twice! Loved it!
We have never hosted a mixed media type class at PV so this was exciting. I think the ladies really liked it and are planning on returning for his Halloween class in Sept and a Winter Wonderland class in Oct. If you were hesitant the first go around then you really should give it a try next time. You won't be disappointed.

Heidi Swapp Class at Paper Vineyard!

Yesterday we were lucky enough at Paper Vineyard to have Heidi Swapp teach a class. It was so much fun! The ladies thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the wonderful project. Heidi was gracious, warm, friendly and inspiring! We are looking forward to another class this September. Be sure to check the Paper Vineyard blog for dates.

Devine Times

We all had such a good time last night at Devine Memories. It was a get-together hosted by Sandy and Michelle for the past and present Design Team members. It was a bittersweet reunion as the store will be closing soon. It was so good to see everyone again and catch up. Yet it was sad to think that this chapter was coming to a close. Such good friendships were formed here and will continue as everyone moves on to new things. Here's to good times, great friendships, laughter, sharing, potlucks, creating and many more new adventures to come!

Surprise!

Surprise!! We pulled it off...yahoo! Big surprise 80th birthday party for Papa. We thought for sure he would find out. But he was surprised all the way around. John's brother from Michigan came out to help with the party. Lots of Papa's friends, neighbors and family were there to wish him a Happy Birthday. The biggest surprise came when his cousins from New Zealand came out of the other room and gave Papa a shock. :) It was great. We all had a great time....lots of food and a fun video that my son put together. Crazy cards and gifts. Just a fun day! So glad it worked. Happy Birthday Papa....we love you!

As Promised

Here is the Family Banner/Mini Book that I mentioned in a previous post. It is a project that I made for Paper Vineyard. I had wanted to create a banner but when I thought about having one myself, I knew it was something that I wouldn't want to hang up forever. So I came up with the idea of making it convert into a mini book. This way you can decorate it for a special occasion, be it birthday, anniversary, graduation...whatever, then when the festivities are over you can connect it together with the rings on the ends and you have a great little mini book that you can save to remember the event. Photos and notes can be added before or after. Both sides are decorated so it hangs nicely and converts well. Works out perfectly. I am very happy with the project and am looking forward to teaching the class. Please visit the website to see the date it will be available and sign up. I would love to have you join me!
